After our room discussion regarding a new numeracy activity, Clothespin Number Match, some children straight away started exploring the numeracy table. They had to choose a number card then place a wooden clothes peg on each picture shown on the card to represent that number. One of the children became very interested in this activity and kept going over to it; he would choose a number card and then count the number of pegs to match the number card and then amazingly would double check that his counting was correct and ask the educator. It is wonderful to see children becoming involved and engaged in their learning as well as see them learning new skills and strategies, such as number recognition, number patterns and identifying numerical structures through counting.
