For Shrove Tuesday, the children in Willow Walk Kindergarten made Pancakes. they measured all the ingredients and then took turns to mix the batter. The educators guided a discussion about safety as the electric frying pan was used to cook the pancakes, which were then enjoyed by all for afternoon tea!
It’s very powerful to involve children in cooking experiences. Not only does it make them feel valued and an important member of the group but it gives clear messages about how food is prepared and the time taken to cook a meal, the careful choice of ingredients and not to mention all of the numeracy concepts that are explored along the way!
