Extending on the children’s interests in making creations with recycled materials, this week; one child decided to make a boat. A few of the children suggested that we test the boat in water to see if it floats. Educator Indika decided to integrate a STEM play experiment into the program and the children explored the concept of floating and sinking!

a STEM play experiment happening at the Willow Walk Kindergarten

They each found an object and had to hypothesize whether it would float or sink, then they had a discussion about different materials and their properties which cause them to float or sink.

Each week, the kindergarten children have been learning about different STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) concepts – often arising from the children’s play or questions about the world around them.
