To tie in with ANZAC Day approaching, this week in Moonglade, educator Despina spoke to the children about creating a little box of goods to send to an Australian soldier to say ‘Thank You’ for their service. They had a discussion about what it would be like being away from your family for a long period of time and what a great thing the Australian soldiers are doing to help other countries who are in need of assistance. The children made a card for the soldier to place into the box of supplies and it will be posted this coming week.
It is important to have real and meaningful discussions with young children about events occurring in the world around us. Many children often have a lot to contribute to such discussions and it opens their eyes to new and different perspectives, others’ plights, various ways of doing things and different values.
