This Sunday, Hampshire Road will come alive with celebration as the community gathers together for the Sunshine Lantern Festival, which celebrates the full moon. The annual festival is in its tenth year and is pulling out all the stops!

What Can You Expect?

The Sunshine Lantern Festival is celebrated in Vietnam and, here in Melbourne, has been an extremely popular event. It will include street performers, children’s rides, pony rides, jumping castles, face painting and lantern making. Wild Action Zoo will have a stage show for children featuring native Australian animals.

Cultural experiences include origami workshops, Vietnamanese lantern making and Aboriginal art workshops; all of which will welcome children. Aboriginal artist Mike Tambo will showcase an Aboriginal art experiences, there will be an African drumming and dance performance and a traditional Vietnamese performance about the legend of the moon.

As the day ends, there’ll be a Lion and Dragon Dance and a parade which children are invited to participate in.

Why Take Your Children?

The Sunshine Lantern Festival will be a beautiful event, filled with cultural activities. Aurora Early Child Education believes in introducing children to a range of different cultures to teach them to be more tolerant and celebrate diversity.

Children who become familiar with other cultures also develop a stronger sense of identity and confidence and build an understanding about their place in the world.

In the last few years, the Sunshine Lantern Festival has been a popular community event, hosting over 55,000 people through the day. It will be a wonderful time for your child to connect more deeply with their community.
