Spring has sprung and with it, it’s brought sunshine, blooming trees and the Royal Melbourne Show. This year the show promises to be bigger and better than ever with rides, entertainment , live music and animal encounters. It will be a wonderful place to spend some time with your children! Here’s what Aurora Early Child Education recommends doing.

Animal Encounters

Research has found that children who regularly interact with animals have strong empathetic and caring skills, tend to stay active and also have a deeper sense of responsibility. Of course, for many families it may not be practical to have a pet, so taking your children to places where they can have hands on experiences with animals is a great alternative.

This year, the Royal Melbourne Show has animal encounters galore. The Biostime Animal Nursery will bring lambs, ducklings, chooks, goats and other farmyard animals and children will be invited to touch them or even have a cuddle. At the Education Hub, you can have a conversation with the farmers about how they care for the animals.

You can also head over the First National Real Estate Farmyard, which will have resident sheep, cattle and alpacas. Friendly farmer Darryl will be at the Farmyard to answer and questions and show your little ones how best to interact with farm animals.

There will also be a dog show, an alpaca show and a cattle show!

The Show Parade

At 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm everyday, a marching band and some of you child’s favourite characters will march around the showground area. The show will also include local community groups.

It’ll be a thrilling experience for children as they see character like Peppa Pig, Shaun the Sheep and Wonder WOman come to life and move to the music. But, as they celebrate and watch the show with the gathering they’ll also feel closer to the community.

Kids Carnival

Children under 6 years old will be welcomed into the Kids Carnival, which will be filled with music, characters and equipment for them to explore like the Pirate Ship, Crocodile Slide or Mini Dodgem Cars 4 Kids. They’re fun activities, guaranteed to delight your little one and stimulate their imaginations.

As a plus, as they explore the pirate ship and climbing up to the slide, they’ll be using their gross motor skills!

Jurassic Creatures Pavilion

Meet dinosaurs and hear them roar at the Jurassic Creatures Pavilion. As you walk through, you’ll learn more about the prehistoric animals from their eating and sleeping habits to why they no longer roam the earth.

The Pavilion is open both in the day and night, but if your child is a little timid, it’s best to visit during the day.

The Royal Melbourne Show will also have lots of child-friendly rides and a variety of food and drink. Buy tickets for the show here.
