Like the rest of Australia, learners at Aurora Early Education have been preparing to celebrate Australia Day. Our experience corners have been set up with flags, koalas and Australian plants. Across studios, our children have been excitedly engaged in activities which helped capture the spirit and give them a deeper insight of the celebration.

Here’s what’s been on at Aurora Early Childcare Education:

Arts and Crafts

In the Seamist Studio, our toddlers used a collection of red, white and blue tissues to make Australian flags. Using their fine motor skills they were able to create some wonderful representations of the flag.

Meanwhile, children in the Moonglade Studio and Willow Walk Kindergarten used coloured paper, glitter, crepe paper and paint to create their own flags. Educators also discussed the flag’s colours, shape and meaning in the Willow Walk Kindergarten.

Our learners also exercised their craft skills and enhanced their knowledge by painting bottle brush flowers and drawing koalas.

Songs and Stories

Koalas, kangaroos and other Australian animals were also the main features of the stories and songs at Aurora over the past week.

Children in the Seamist Studio enjoyed listening to a story about Australian animals while learners in Willow Walk Kindergarten were immersed in the tale of ‘Koala Lou’, a story where little Koala Lou competes in the Bush Olympics. Our Willow Walk learners also sang the Australian National Anthem.

Celebrations and preparations across the centre culminated on January 25th, when the children came to Aurora dressed in Australian colours. It was lovely to see everyone wearing Australia hats and sunglasses!
