Our school readiness program started on Monday and throughout the week children have been making food for their lunchboxes.
As a group we decided on a different meal for the children to be involved in making per day…
On Monday, the children enjoyed making sandwiches with cheese, lettuce tomato, carrot, chicken or beef.
On Tuesday, the children made pita wraps with chicken, carrot, capsicum, lettuce, cheese and avocado.
On Wednesday our chef, Henry showed the children how to make rice paper rolls with Chicken, lettuce, cucumber, carrot, bean sprouts and hoisin sauce. The children were very persistent making the rolls to their liking even though the rice paper was quite sticky and difficult to work with.
On Thursday the children made burritos with mince, corn, cheese, lettuce and tomato.
On Friday the children made rolls with fish, cream cheese, carrots, cucumbers and lettuce.
Interestingly, as well as enjoying making their lunches. Willow Walk children have gained an insight into the time and effort involved in preparing food. Hopefully it has provided a valuable lesson that we should appreciate the person making the food for us and enjoy the food provided for us.
We also noticed there was not one scrap of vegetables left on anyone’s plate by the end of each meal… let’s hope that they carry these practices over to their homes as well!
