A few of the children have shown an interest in cooking and last week it was decided that making cupcakes as an activity would be arranged.

Firstly the educators talked about the different ingredients that need to go into the recipe. The children then took turns to measure and pour the ingredients into a bowl. Then the children had fun stirring all the ingredients together.

It was explained that placing paper molds into the metal cupcake holder would stop the cupcakes from sticking to the pan. The children showed great patience as they took turns to help the educators.

The cupcakes were placed into the oven and then cooled before we all enjoyed them together.

Children learn by touching, tasting, seeing, feeling and listening. Cooking activities are ideal for children because all their senses are stimulated. When children help in the preparation of a meal, they feel they are making an important contribution to the well being of others. This feels them with a sense of pride, personal satisfaction and self confidence.
