The kindergarten children were lucky enough to have a Mandarin session at the very beginning of the Chinese New Year. There was a discussion about it being the year of the dog and what this represented in Chinese culture. Our wonderful Mandarin teacher also talked to the children about the different Chinese traditions and celebrations that are held for the New Year. They learned the numbers to 10 in Mandarin, the names of some fruits and of some animals. The session finished with a song in English which was then translated into Mandarin.

The educators incorporated many Chinese arts and crafts sessions into the program over the past two weeks and have also created a culture table and  are reading literature about Chinese traditions.
