Today, some of the Moonglade children made Santa hats for pottery.

The pottery teacher showed a completed Santa hat and demonstrated how to make it to the children. They watched and listened carefully, a few children asked questions along the way.

Then the children had a turn, they rolled a piece of clay around into a ball and then squashed it into what they felt was the best shape for a Santa hat.

They then poked dots and lines on the hats to make some patterns. Then the children were given another piece of clay and rolled it then flattened it to make curly patterns on the front for Santa’s hair.

To attach the hair pieces to the hat, the children were shown how to wet the two pieces to stick together to make a kind of paste.

Once the beautiful creations have been in the kiln they will be ready for painting next week.

Pottery is a fantastic extra-curricular activity as it assists with giving the children another medium to create with and is also a wonderful sensory experience for them, as it is cold, moist and malleable.
