Aurora Early Education always strives to provide inspiring programs and experiences that foster and nurture children’s curiosity and deepen their learning and engagement with a fun and interactive approach.

In Moonglade Studio, the children had an opportunity to get involved in participating in, exploring and investigating different modules related to STEM education. The STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. During the session, Elena from Starting Bright divided the activities into different modules; Science and Mathematics, Technology and Engineering Modules.

noise interpretation lessons are a part of the STEM inclusion in the curriculum here at Aurora.

For the Science and Mathematics module, the children were involved in a sound game where they listened to an audio of animal noises and then matched them to the animal images provided. The children did really well in guessing the right animal noise such as duck, dog, horse and cat by listening attentively to the questions.

In the Technology module, the children were given a plastic sound tube toy to create different tones and sounds. The children were fascinated with the experiment that blowing some air from the larger end of the tube can actually create a sound. Elena then challenged the children by asking them to make an elephant sound to which the children obliged happily.

Elena introduced the Engineering module by providing percussion instruments to the children and letting them explore various sounds that they can create by shaking or blowing the instruments. To add to the fun, Elena provided a hands-on activity for the children to engage in and participate with. Each child was given a plastic egg shaker, spoons and rice. With the help and assistance from Elena and the educators, the children were able to create their very own percussion instrument (egg shaker).

The STEM Incursion has provided the children with the opportunity to experience science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a form that they could enjoy, and that is related to their interests. These allow them insights into how things work with a fun and interactive approach.

We would like to thank Elena from Starting Bright for coming into all the studios at Aurora and helping the children understand and explore sounds and vibrations through interactive and diverse activities.
